Pedra Alta – A Must-Try Dining Experience in Paris
Pedra Alta, a well-known restaurant in Paris, is located in the 8th arrondissement, one of the city’s most classic districts. Hidden in the alleys near the Champs-Élysées, Pedra Alta had been on my must-visit list ever since I saw it being recommended online. The first time I came to Paris, I was alone and didn’t feel comfortable dining here by myself. But now, with my family of four, it was the perfect opportunity. Pedra Alta is a Portuguese restaurant in France, with multiple locations. However, the Champs-Élysées branch is by far the most popular because it allows visitors to explore the iconic 8th arrondissement and then enjoy a meal before continuing to stroll along the beautifully illuminated Champs-Élysées at night—an absolutely stunning experience!
Finding Pedra Alta

Pedra Alta can be easy to miss if you’re not paying close attention, so be sure to look carefully. Once you reach the entrance, wait for the staff to seat you.
Pedra Alta – Restaurant Atmosphere

I visited Pedra Alta on a weekday at noon, and surprisingly, there weren’t many customers. The majority of diners were Asian, mostly from Taiwan and Korea.

The restaurant has two floors, with plenty of seating upstairs. If you visit during weekday afternoons, you likely won’t need to wait, but dinner hours might be a different story, depending on your luck.
Pedra Alta Menu & Recommendations

The Menu – Huge & Impressive!

Dining Experience

Once seated, the staff quickly set the table with plates, bread, cheese, and cutlery—ready for some serious seafood action.
Riz Grill – €58.7

The menu showcases large and luxurious dishes, so just pick the one that appeals to you the most. We ordered the Riz Grill, and when it arrived, we were completely shocked—it looked even more impressive in person than in the online photos! At just €60, the portion size was incredible, featuring a whole lobster along with prawns, mussels, squid, and crispy fries underneath to soak up the flavors.

Let’s start with the Boston lobster. It felt a bit dry, suggesting that it wasn’t freshly caught but rather pre-cooked and frozen before being seasoned and stir-fried. Given that this whole dish costs around €60, it’s understandable. Still, it was a massive and satisfying platter.

The mussels were dry-fried, causing them to shrink slightly. They were on the smaller side but came in a generous portion, making up for the size.

The highlight of the dish was the seafood rice porridge—more of a Portuguese seafood stew than a Spanish paella. It was packed with squid, mussels, onions, and other seafood ingredients. While delicious, it was overly salty, so I wouldn’t recommend drinking too much of the broth.
1/2 Rumstk Esp – €24.8

A visit to Pedra Alta wouldn’t be complete without trying both the lobster and the steak. The steak portions looked enormous, so since we had already ordered the giant seafood platter, we opted for the half-portion steak. Thankfully, they offer this option; otherwise, finishing it would have been a challenge. The steak is served on a skewer, and the waiter dramatically removes the skewer at the table for a bit of a show.
This set also comes with an overwhelming portion of fries.

The dish matched the menu photo perfectly. The steak was much better than the lobster, cooked to the right doneness but quite thick, making it a bit chewy. A sprinkle of salt enhanced the flavor perfectly.

As for the fries… they were so dry and overcooked that I wouldn’t recommend eating them. I’d rather have bread than those fries. They seemed more like a filler than an actual side dish.
Final Thoughts

A 10% service charge is automatically added to the bill. While the food isn’t mind-blowingly delicious, it’s definitely filling, and the price is very reasonable for the portion size. If you enjoy restaurants that serve everything at once, Pedra Alta is a great choice. Unlike traditional French dining, where each dish is served slowly, dragging the meal out for three hours, this place gets everything on the table quickly—perfect for those who prefer a faster dining experience. I highly recommend Pedra Alta for groups; the portions are large, the location is convenient, and Portuguese cuisine is definitely something Taiwanese diners will love!
